WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Aubrey Bledsoe, Riley Ridgik and Katie Stengel were named to the All-ACC Women's Soccer Team and Sarah Teegarden was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team as the conference announced its yearly awards Thursday.
A three-time All-ACC selection, Bledsoe was named to the All-ACC First Team for the second time, a de facto nod as the conference's goalkeeper of the year. Ridgik and Stengel were named to the second of the three teams, which are voted on by the league's 14 head coaches.
Stengel joins Emily Taggart (1998-01) as the only players in Wake Forest women's soccer history to be selected to the All-ACC Team four times.
Despite appearing in only 12 games before being sidelined with blood clots in her leg, Stengel leads the Deacons with eight assists and ranks second on the team with six goals and 20 points. She became the first Wake Forest player to cross the 50-goal threshold for her career this season, doing so in only 70 games.
Bledsoe's first team selection was a fitting way to cap off a career that will leave her as the most accomplished goalkeeper ever to wear a Wake Forest uniform. A starter of every game of her college career, she has kept six shutouts this season, holding a save percentage of .800 and a 0.90 goals against average.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native holds most of the Demon Deacons' career goalkeeping records, boasting 31 career shutouts and a 0.92 goals against average. She heads into her final NCAA Championship ranking fourth in Division I history in career minutes played by a goalkeeper with 8,427:09.
Ridgik burst onto the ACC offensive scene this season as a junior, leading the Demon Deacons with 10 goals and 23 points. The Ventura, Calif. had spent her first two seasons as Wake Forest's starting defensive midfielder, earning All-Freshman honors in 2011, but transitioned to an attacking midfielder and then a forward this season - a move that paid dividends on the scoresheet.
Eight on Ridgik's 10 goals have come against ACC competition and a number of them have been precision strikes from long distance, including scores from more than 30 yards from goal against Portland, North Carolina and Miami.
Teegarden has immediately made her mark at Wake Forest, starting all 18 games in the defensive midfield. The rookie from Monrovia, Calif. notched two assists this season in addition to bolstering the Demon Deacons' defensive corps.
North Carolina's Crystal Dunn was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, and Florida State's Kassey Kallman earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Notre Dame's Morgan Andrews was named ACC Freshman of the Year and Virginia head coach Steve Swanson was named the ACC Coach of the Year.
The Demon Deacons will find out their fate for the NCAA Championship on Monday, Nov. 11. The selection show will be broadcast on NCAA.com at 4:30 p.m.
