Wake Forest Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik
Opening statement...
"It was a gutty win tonight. There were a lot of good things and obviously things that we need to work on. I give Colgate a lot of credit. They shot very well, especially from the three-point arc. We showed a lot of grit out there. Our depth was a factor. We had nine players play double-digit minutes tonight. We shot it well offensively and only turned the ball over five times. We need to step it up defensively and contain the ball better as well as guard the arc better. We are fortunate to get the win and move on and get better tomorrow."
On the second-half play of guard Codi Miller-McIntyre...
"We have depth and I shook it up a little bit in the second-half but Codi (Miller-McIntyre) is a pro in terms of his attitude and his work ethic. He really responded big time. It's because of who he is as a young man."
On the play of forward Devin Thomas...
"He was very work-man like down low. Shooting 11-for-15 is very special. He has a tremendous will down low to score. When you talk about determination, he is going to find a way to score down low. He did a great job for us."
On the impact of senior Travis McKie's offensive play...
"He made some really timely shots as well as some timely rebounds. He did a great job with some key rebounds."
Sophomore guard Codi Miller-McIntyre
On what went right for the Deacons tonight...
"I think as a team we playe¬d a great offensive game. We have to focus more on defense but offensively everything went great."
On coming off the bench in the second half...
"Coach (Bzdelik) always preaches to me about being aggressive, and I think in the first half after I missed those first two free throws I wasn't aggressive outside. So Coach put me on the bench to see how I would respond, and I think I responded."
Sophomore forward Devin Thomas
On areas for improvement...
"They weren't really looking to score inside we were letting them get the ball inside though which was a problem. I think it's safe to say that the next two or three days of practice will be all defense."
On the play of the defense...
"If we play defense and get a rebound, we're dangerous, and we did in the second half. We were dangerous. We wore on them towards the end of the game. The offense seems to be there, but all we really need to focus on is defense and the little things like talking and communication, and I think all the puzzle pieces will be put in place."
