Wake Forest will return from its 10-day break for final exams to host St. Bonaventure on Tuesday evening. The game marks the first between the Demon Deacons and the Bonnies since the 1961 NCAA Tournament.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the LJVM Coliseum. The game will be broadcast online on ESPN3 and can also be heard on the Wake Forest IMG Sports Network.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest is coming off a 76-66 overtime win vs. Richmond on Saturday, Dec. 7. The Deacons overcame an 11-point deficit in the final five minutes and a seven-point hole in the final 1:36 of regulation for the win.
The Deacons stopped the Spiders on six of their final eight possessions in regulation while they chipped away at the lead. Trailing by five, Travis McKie drilled a 3-pointer with 1:16 left and Codi Miller-McIntyre made two free throws with seven seconds remaining to tie the score.
Wake Forest scored the final seven points of regulation and the first eight of overtime. The Deacons held the Spiders scoreless on their first three possessions of overtime.
Miller-McIntyre tied his career-high with 26 points, which included 21 after halftime and nine points in overtime alone. Miller-McIntyre, who had a noticeable size advantage over Richmond's guards, went a career-best 10-for-13 at the free throw line.
Devin Thomas came off the bench for the first time in his career and posted a double-double of 11 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.
Tyler Cavanaugh scored a career-high 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Wake Forest Storylines
With the fall semester behind them, the Deacons will be able to focus solely on basketball until classes resume in mid-January. Wake Forest will have six games before beginning the spring semester on Jan. 14.
Coron Williams is the only player in the ACC who has played more than 200 minutes with less than five turnovers this season. Williams has just two turnovers in 246 minutes on the year.
Wake Forest leads the ACC in rebounding with 44.0 per game. In the past two games, the Deacons have limited Tulane and Richmond to 26 and 24 rebounds, respectively, while out-rebounding them by +13 and +29.
Series History
The Deacons won their only previous meeting with the Bonnies, knocking off St. Bonaventure 78-73 on March, 17, 1961, in the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament in Charlotte. Wake Forest would go on to lose to St. Joseph's 96-86 in the finals of the East Region the following day.
1961 ACC Player of the Year Len Chappell paced the Deacons with 24 points and 15 rebounds against the Bonnies.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will host Triad-rival UNCG on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. The Deacons have won all seven previous meetings with the Spartans, including an 84-70 win in Greensboro last season.
The Deacons will be off for the holidays before traveling to Xavier on Saturday, Dec. 28, to meet the Musketeers in the fourth annual Skip Prosser Classic. Wake Forest has won two of three meetings in the event, which was named in honor of the late head coach of both schools.
