NEW YORK - Wake Forest head baseball coach Tom Walter was named an `Everyday Hero' by the Nephcure Foundation at the Countdown to the Cure event in New York City on Nov. 21. Walter was one of six people honored at the benefit which is organized by patients and families affected by kidney disease.
Walter donated his kidney to outfielder Kevin Jordan prior to the 2011 season. Jordan was diagnosed with a severe kidney disease and needed a transplant which Walter provided. After redshirting his freshman season, Jordan has played in 79 games and made 64 starts for the Demon Deacons. Their story has inspired others as the two continue to share their story.
The NephCure Foundation is the only organization solely committed to seeking a cause and cure for kidney disease Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and Nephrotic Syndrome. The organization aims to help science unlock the biological mechanisms that cause these serious conditions and ultimately find a way to cure and prevent them.
Over $600,000 was raised at the Countdown to the Cure benefit. For more information, visit Nephcure.org.
