Wake Forest Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik
Opening statement...
"I was really proud of our bench; not only did they jumpstart us off offensively and keep us going, they did a great job defensively. Coron, Aaron, Andre, and even Miles - they all did a great job of contributing in a big way."
On Coron Williams' impact on the game...
"He give us big lift offensively by hitting shots. He communicates and does what we ask him to do. He leads by example. He matured to come off the bench, and he is playing good minutes for us. I can count on him to give us energy and a lift off the bench, and that's a great thing. It's not about starting, it's about what you do when you get on the court. He has the green light. He has the green light. He shoots it quick and takes good shots and can make shots. I think in the first game he wanted so hard to make shots, so he was pressing. Now he's in a groove. This is who he is. He's a 42% 3-point shooter. He likes shooting in the Joel and that's a great thing."
On Andre Washington developing...
"When you go back to our trip in the Bahamas, and you look at Kansas, USC and Tennesse, Andre played 34 minutes, 8/8 for floor, 2/2 on the line and seven rebounds, and that's really good. His confidence is starting to take shape in a positive way."
On improvements for Saturday's Richmond game...
"Well we hit a couple shots. To be honest, we weren't very aggressive, and that is going to have to change for the Richmond game on Saturday. We weren't aggressive coming off ball screens or in our cuts or running the ball. We have to rebound and run."
Tulane Head Coach Ed Conroy
Opening statement...
"First, I credit Wake. They did a couple things. They hit some shots early when we were changing defenses, especially Williams. He got loose a couple times. I thought by the second half when we had it tied up we had some things going our way, but they kept pushing the break at us and got too many easy baskets late. Some of those easy baskets--it takes a work ethic. They've been great in transition all year, and they just kept pushing us. Finally, our guys had some breakdowns in coverages. So I thought that was the key to the game, just on some of those transitions at the end, where we either fouled them and gave them the and one or they got an easy basket and changed the game."
On the play of Louis Dabney...
"He's a heck of a competitor. Our back court has put up really good offensive numbers all year and unfortunately with Hook and Stark, they didn't have one of their better nights shooting the basketball. But Louis is a competitor. We've got three guards out there, and he can play any of the positions. He's strong enough to guard several spots and he's a tough cover because when he's knocking a shot down like he was tonight, he can get by just about anybody. It's tough to keep him from scoring and getting to that free throw line. I'm proud of him. He was diving on the floor at the end of that game. He's got 30 points, he's played 38 minutes, and that kind of competitiveness with our young guys, as we go through the season, is why we're going to develop into a pretty good team."
On being outrebounded by Wake Forest...
"We were worried about it, and I think that's a function of them and that's why you have to give them credit. Their transition, especially against our team, was our biggest worry. They just hammered people with getting that ball out and getting it up quick, and it takes a little of your aggressiveness away from going to the offensive boards."
On Wake Forest scoring 34 points off the bench...
"I think the fact that they're pushing it at you, the fact that their bench is being productive. I think you saw some of our guys really wear down. They came at us with more numbers and wore us down."
Sophomore Forward Tyler Cavanaugh
On the win...
"It's good to come back home. We obviously started slow. The guys off the bench really picked us up tonight. [Arnaud William Adala] Moto, Andre [Washington] and Aaron [Rountree] were really good tonight off the bench. Coron [Williams] especially played great. But we were just a team of 10 guys. We've just got to keep working and we're glad to be back at the Joel."
On the great bench performance...
"It was the bench guys there for a good six or seven minutes. The lineup with Aaron, Moto and Andre was great. Just being able to have depth like that and having anyone step up any given night is key. So it was big for those guys tonight."
On his own performance...
"I think my teammates just found me in good spots. We were just moving the ball great, and when Coron [Williams] is hitting shots and you're setting screens for him, you're going to get open shots. We've just got to continue to finish and do all the little things when we start playing these bigger teams."
Graduate Student Guard Coron Williams
On the performance of the bench players...
"We needed a lot of energy. We have some energetic guys coming off the bench. We did what we needed to do tonight."
On his great shooting performance...
"I found some seams in the defense. I found a lot of gaps, especially in transition. They were kind of losing me."
On being undefeated at home...
"We're comfortable here. The fans do a great job of giving us a lot of energy. We have to continue."
On Andre Washington and the team's play in the paint...
"That's what we need from [Andre Washington.] He's not seven foot for no reason. He's down there to block shots. He did a great job of that tonight. We have to do a better job of getting guys down in the lane. We have guys like Devin [Thomas] and [Andre Washington] to do that for us."
