WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head volleyball coach Ken Murczek announced two new assistant coaches this week.
Sarah Rumely and Diego Castaneda who were on Murczek's staff at North Texas will join the Demon Deacon coaching staff.
"Sarah and Diego were instrumental in my past success and it will allow for a seamless transition here at Wake Forest," said Murczek. "Having spent two years with the same staff and having assistant coaches you can trust is what every head coach strives for and will allow for our program to continue improving immediately."
Rumely played at the University of Kentucky and was the 2009 SEC Player of the Year. She spent the last two seasons as an assistant at North Texas after playing professionally in France.
A two-time AVCA All-American, she ranks first at Kentucky in career assists (5,703) and aces (165) and was a two-time All-SEC first team selection. At Wake Forest, she will primarily work with the setters, handle the recruiting database and serve as the academic liason.
"I am thrilled and honored to be joining the Demon Deacon family," said Rumely. "I want to thank Ken Murczek and the athletic department at Wake Forest for allowing me to continue my coaching career at a first class institution."
Castaneda also comes to Wake Forest after spending two years as an assistant at North Texas. A 2008 graduate of Baylor, Castaneda worked with the Mean Green middle blockers and helped with recruiting and video scouting and will continue those duties at Wake Forest.
While at Baylor, Castaneda was responsible for team statistics, facilities preparation and many other facets of the program's day-to-day operations. He also served two seasons as the program's graduate assistant coach, helping the Bears advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2009.
Castaneda recently served as an assistant coach for the USA A2 Blue squad that won the Women's Open Division title at the 2011 USA Volleyball Open National Championships in Dallas.
"I'm really excited and very thankful to Coach Murczek for this extraordinary opportunity," said Castaneda. "Wake Forest is a highly recognized academic institution and the ACC is one of the premier volleyball conferences in the nation. I can't wait to be a part of the Demon Deacon athletic family and help the volleyball program go to the next level."
