Wake Forest Continues Road Trip at San Diego

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team will travel across the country for a showdown with San Diego at 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon in the second match of a seven-match road trip.
The Demon Deacons enter the matchup with a 1-10 overall record, while the Toreros have gone 3-6 thus far in 2013.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest traveled to Tampa, Fla., to face No. 70 South Florida last Sunday, but the Deacs were swept 7-0 by the Bulls.
• Andrea Retolaza nearly came away with her second consecutive win before falling in three sets against Paula Montoya at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 7-6, 0-1 (5).
• Kasey Gardiner and Xue Zhang also forced tiebreakers in their second sets, but could not force a decisive third set at No. 2 or No. 3 singles.
Friday's Opponent
• San Diego has gone 3-6 this season and has yet to play a West Coast Conference matchup.
• In their last time out, the Toreros dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 39 Texas on Wednesday.
• Laura Claus, San Diego's No. 1 singles player, is ranked No. 87 in the nation in the latest ITA singles rankings.
Top Wake Forest Storylines
• Kathryn Talbert is continuing her quest for 100 total career victories as a Demon Deacon. She sits just two shy of the mark with a 38-34 mark in singles and a 60-30 record in doubles.
• Karen Forman will get to play in front of a hometown crowd on Friday, as Del Mar, Calif., sits only a half-hour away from San Diego.
• The Toreros will be the first non-ranked team that the Deacs have faced since Louisville on Feb. 24.
Next Up
• Wake Forest will continue its month-long road trip with a visit to No. 2 Duke for an ACC showdown next Sunday, Mar. 24. The match is currently scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start time.
