BLACKSBURG, Va. - Wake Forest held leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but No. 22 Virginia Tech scored three in the fourth and six in the sixth to help capture a 13-2 victory over the Demon Deacons on Thursday night at English Field.

The loss drops Wake Forest to 28-26 overall and 9-19 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. In addition, the Demon Deacons are now mathematically eliminated from earning a bid to the 2013 ACC Baseball Championship. The Hokies are now 34-19 overall and 14-14 in the ACC.

Wake Forest went on top 1-0 in the top of the first inning thanks to back-to-back, one-out doubles by Mark Rhine and Pat Blair. Rhine doubled down the left field line and came around to score on a double to left center by Blair.

Virginia Tech tied the game at 1-1 on a solo home run by Tyler Horan in the bottom of the second before the Deacs took their second lead of the game in the fourth inning. Brett Armour led off the inning with a double to right center and moved to third on a fly out to center field by Conor Keniry. Armour then scored on a sacrifice fly by Joey Rodriguez to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Demon Deacons.

The Hokies took their first lead of the game at 4-2 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth before scoring six in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth. Virginia Tech outhit Wake Forest 15-7 for the game.

Rhine was the only Demon Deacon to record more than one hit in the game, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Armour, Blair and Charlie Morgan all had doubles as well.

Joe Mantiply stayed perfect on the year at 5-0 after pitching 6.0 innings and giving up two runs. Jack Fischer (2-4) suffered the loss for Wake Forest.

Wake Forest and Virginia Tech are set to play Game 2 of the series tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at English Field.
