WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest senior Marisa Park has been called up to the Philippines women's national team for the qualifying matches for the 2014 AFC Women's Asian Cup. Park is the first Demon Deacon to earn a call-up to a senior women's national team for a competitive match.
The Philippines is in Group B of the Asian Cup qualifying and will compete in Dhaka, Bangladesh against Iran (May 21), Thailand (May 23) and Bangladesh (May 25). The winner of the four-team group qualifies for the Asian Cup finals where five spots to the 2015 FIFA World Cup will be on the line.
Park competed for the Philippines in the LA Viking Cup, a friendly tournament, last November, helping lead the Malditas to the championship. The forward scored the Philippines' only goal of the championship match against the California Cosmos which ended in a 1-1 draw. The Malditas went on to win the title in a penalty kick shootout.
Park made 89 appearances in her four years at Wake Forest, the fourth-most in program history. The Great Falls, Va. native of Filipino descent totaled eight goals, 10 assists and 26 points in her career and was named to the 2010 ACC All-Tournament Team after helping to lead the Demon Deacons to their first ACC Championship.
