ATHENS, Ga. - The 19th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team will begin play in the NCAA Championship against No. 36 Northwestern on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
The Demon Deacons (20-8) enter the tournament on a hot streak, having reached the final of the ACC Championship after knocking off No. 9 Duke in the semifinals.
The winner of Friday's match will advance to take on either No. 3 seed Georgia or Binghamton in the second round on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Return to the Tournament
- Wake Forest returns to the NCAA Championship after a one-year hiatus. Prior to missing the tournament last season, Wake Forest had earned 11 consecutive NCAA bids from 2001-11.
- Wake Forest has reached the Round of 16 of the NCAA Championship on two occasions, in 2007 and 2009, and has advanced to at least the second round in its last three tournament appearances.
- The Demon Deacons will be traveling to Athens, Ga. for the third time in NCAA Championship play. The Deacons came up just short of an upset of No. 4 seed Virginia in the 2007 Round of 16 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex and then fell to Auburn in the opening round there the following year.
The Nation's Most Improved Team
- By ranking, Wake Forest is the most improved team in the country from last season. The Demon Deacons are currently ranked No. 19 nationally, rising 50 spots from last year's No. 69 end-of-season ranking.
- Wake Forest was also the most improved team in the ACC, finishing in third place with a 7-3 conference record after recording a 10th-place finish a year ago.
Bresky Named ACC Coach of the Year, Three Deacs Make All-ACC
- Second-year head coach Tony Bresky was selected as the ACC Coach of the Year after leading the Demon Deacons to a 20-8 (7-3 ACC) record, the ACC Championship final and a third-place finish in the conference during the regular season.
- Bresky is only the second coach in Wake Forest history to take home ACC Coach of the Year honors, joining legendary head coach Jim Leighton who won the award in 1981. It is the first time since 2007 that Virginia head coach Brian Boland did not win the award.
- Wake Forest put three players on the 2013 All-ACC team with David Hopkins, Amogh Prabhakar and Adam Lee all earning all-conference honors.
- Hopkins was named to the team for the second year in a row, while Lee and Prabhakar were honored for the first time. All three players have been nationally ranked in both doubles and singles this season.

- It is the first time since 2008 that Wake Forest has had multiple doubles teams in the national rankings.
Adam Lee Sets School Wins Record
- Junior Adam Lee has won 37 singles matches this season, setting the Wake Forest single-season record.
