WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Wake Forest All-American and current Los Angeles Clippers All-Star Chris Paul was elected as president of the National Basketball Players Association on Wednesday.
Paul, who is entering his ninth season in the NBA, will replace Derek Fisher, whose term as president has expired. Paul previously served on the union's executive committee.
"It was something I saw as a challenge, something I knew I'd be able to handle," Paul told the Associated Press. "It's an unbelievable opportunity, a lot of responsibility comes with this position but I'm very fortunate to have an outstanding of committee guys. The past couple of days have been outstanding, the dialogue we've had as an executive committee also with the players that have come in town, it was amazing."
Paul played two seasons at Wake Forest from 2003-05. He was named the 2003-04 ACC Rookie of the Year and a consensus first team All-American in 2004-05. Paul had his No. 3 jersey retired at Wake Forest this past March.
