Wake Forest Opens with Deacon Invitational

• Wake Forest opens the 2013 season on Friday with the Deacon Invitational beginning with a match against East Carolina at 6:30 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
• The Demon Deacons will then take on ETSU at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday before a night match against nearby-rival UNCG at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out

• Wake Forest is coming off a season with an 11-21 overall record and a 5-15 mark in the ACC, finishing 10th in the conference.
• The Deacs scored several big wins however in the 2012 season including sweeping Duke for the first time in program history and a win over NC State in a televised match.

Wake Forest Storylines

• Head coach Ken Murczek will coach his first match as the head mentor of the Demon Deacons following three seasons at North Texas.
• The Deacs have two seniors in 2013 with a wealth of experience in outside hitter Kylie Hargreaves and middle blocker Kristin Grissom. Hargreaves started every match last season while Grissom started all but three.
• Wake Forest welcomes four newcomers this season including three freshmen (Hanna Lee, Maggie Sinkler and Sophia Dodd) along with Pepperdine transfer Matalee Reed.
• Setter Danae Rosendall has already etched her way into the Wake Forest record books with 2,239 assists which is fifth all-time in school history.
• Sophomore libero Megan Miller established herself last season as one of the premier defensive players in the conference.

The Opposition & Series History

• Wake Forest has not lost to East Carolina since 1980 and has rattled off 10-straight wins over the Pirates.
• Dating back to 1985, Wake Forest has won three-straight over ETSU and is playing UNCG for the first time since 2001. The Deacs have a 19-15 edge in the all-time series over the Spartans.

Next Up...

• Wake Forest heads west to the Cal State Fullerton Classic for three matches beginning Sept. 6 in Fullerton, Calif.
• The Deacs will take on William & Mary, Gardner-Webb and host Cal State Fullerton.
