COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 15 Wake Forest fell to No.2 Maryland on Friday night 4-1 in the ACC opener for each team.
Holly Brown tallied the goal for Wake Forest (5-2/0-1 ACC) in the first half off an assist from Kari Walkley for her third tally of the season. Valerie Dahmen made eight saves in the game.
Maryland scored two goals in the first half to lead 2-1 at halftime and added two more in the second half as the Terps improve to 7-0 on the season.
Maryland got on the board first with a goal from Jill Witmer at the 4:18 mark on a shot that was deflected from the top of the circle.
Brown tied the game up at 1-1 just five minutes later off a pass from Kari Walkley.
Katie Gerzabek gave the Terrapins a 2-1 lead after a hard shot from the top left of the circle with 10 minutes left in the first half. Walkley had three shots in the closing minutes of the half but goalkeeper Natalie Hunter made the save on each attempt.
Following halftime, Anna Dessoye added a goal for the Terps six minutes into the half to push the lead to 3-1. Ali McEvoy made it a 4-1 lead for Maryland off a rebound at the 55:28 mark of the second half.
Wake Forest is in action again on Sunday when the Deacs take on American University at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
