Asch and Fernandez win title at W&M Invitational

Williamsburg, Va. - Samantha Asch and Luisa Fernandez won their doubles flight and Xue Zhang and Karen Forman both advanced to the finals of their singles flights as the Wake Forest women's tennis team continued play at the Tribe Invitational.
Asch and Fernandez, both playing in their first collegiate tournament, defeated Katherine Popova and Natalie Looney by a score of 8-6 to win the Sones flight.
Two Deacons reached the finals of their respective singles flights. In the Waters draw, sophomore Zhang defeated Amanda Lin of Harvard, 6-4, 6-4. Zhang advances to face Dartmouth freshman Taylor Ng on Sunday.
Forman also advanced to the finals in the Murano flight, prevailing in a marathon match over Natalie Looney of South Carolina, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. The junior will play Sarah Richter, a Utah freshman, on Sunday for a chance to win her draw.
In other singles action, Asch continued to play well in the consolation draw of the Nikolaus flight, defeating No. 66 Sarah Pham of Utah by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. She will play Dominika Kanakova in the consolation final on Sunday.
Kristina Centenari, another Wake Forest freshman, also picked up a win on Friday in the Lennon draw. She defeated Jackie Lee of William & Mary by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Centenari will play Rachael Morales of Marshall on Sunday.
The Deacons found success in other doubles flights. Guerin and Forman teamed up to reach the consolation final in the Michelle O draw, beating Richter and Luisa Garstner da Rosa of Utah by a score of 8-4. But the Deacons came up short in the consolation final, falling to Julienne Keong and Melissa Matsuoka of Dartmouth, 8-4.
