HARRISONBURG, Va. - Wake Forest swept the JMU Invitational on Saturday defeating Cleveland State 3-0 and Campbell 3-1 to win the tournament after defeating host James Madison on Friday night.
The Demon Deacons improve to an 11-1 overall record which is the best start in program history, surpassing the 10-1 mark set by the 2000 squad.
Sophia Dodd was named the tournament MVP while Kylie Hargreaves and Kristin Grissom were named to the All-Tournament team.
Grissom had a combined 28 kills on the day while Hargreaves had 27 for the afternoon. Dodd had 26 assists in the first match against Cleveland State and 49 assists in the match against Campbell.
Cleveland State Recap:
The Demon Deacons took the first match of the day against Cleveland State 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-20). Grissom and Hargreaves each had 10 kills in the match while Dodd had 26 assists in the win over the Vikings (9-3), an NCAA tournament team a season ago.
Hargreaves had a team-high nine digs while Grissom had five solo blocks and three block assists.
Wake Forest won the first set 25-23 after trailing 20-16 late in the set. Dodd registered a kill to tie the set at 21 which was followed up by a huge block from Hargreaves and Reed to put Wake Forest up 22-21.
After the teams traded points to knot the game at 23-23, Grissom tallied a solo block following a service error from CSU to take the first set 25-23.
Wake Forest and Cleveland State traded points through the early stages of the second set until the Deacs pulled away to lead 15-9. The Demon Deacons pulled away to win the set 25-17 while hitting .571 as a team in the set. Cleveland State did not record a block in the set.
The Vikings went up 10-5 in the third set and held the advantage until the Deacs tied the set up at 16. Grissom put the Demon Deacons up 19-18 after a big kill which was followed up by a 6-2 run to take the set 25-20.
The Deacs hit .329 as a team while limiting the Vikings to .139 on the year. Wake Forest recorded 11 blocks to Cleveland State's four.

Grissom had a team-high 18 kills in the victory while Hargreaves added 17. Dodd had 49 assists in the game along with six kills and two service aces while adding nine digs and four block assists. Jazmen Russell had 14 kills as well in the win. Megan Miller had a team-high 24 digs.
Trailing 11-10 in the first set of the match, Wake Forest went on a 10-2 run to open the set up. The Deacs went on to take the first set 25-16 aided by five kills from both Hargreaves and Russell along with four from Grissom.
Campbell battled and took a close second set 25-22. Following the break between sets, Wake Forest came out in the third set and rattled off an 11-1 run to begin the frame.
The Camels narrowed the lead but Wake Forest closed the set out winning 25-14 off a kill from Reed. For the set, the Deacs hit .459 with 18 kills and only one error.
Trailing 10-9 in the fourth set, the Demon Deacons went on a 9-1 run to go up 18-11. Wake Forest closed out the set winning 25-15 after a block from Reed and Rusk.
The Deacs hit .326 on the day while holding Campbell to a hitting percentage of .126. Lindsey Coats had a team-high 10 kills for the Camels.
Wake Forest returns to action next Friday to open up ACC play against Virginia Tech at 6:30 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
