FULLERTON, Calif. - Wake Forest volleyball cruised to its fourth win of the season on Friday night as the Demon Deacons defeated Gardner-Webb 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-19) at the Cal State Fullerton Classic.

It is the first time since 2003 that Wake Forest has won four-straight matches to begin the season.

Matalee Reed had a team-high 12 kills with one solo block and two block assists. Kylie Hargreaves added nine kills and seven digs while Kristin Grissom and Ashlee Rusk added five kills each. Megan Miller had a team-high 18 digs for the Demon Deacons.

The first set was all Wake Forest as the Deacs won 25-8. With the Demon Deacons leading 6-5 early, Wake Forest went on an 11-3 run to distance themselves from the Bulldogs. With a 17-8 lead, the Deacs then went on an 8-0 run behind the strong serving of Reed to finish the set 25-8.

In the second set, the Deacs sped out to a 7-0 lead in the second set. Wake Forest outscored Gardner-Webb 20-3 to end the first set and quickly outscored the Bulldogs in the second set. The Bulldogs got within five of the Demon Deacons as Wake Forest led 15-10, but the Deacs closed out the second set on a 10-4 run to win 25-14.

Gardner-Webb took the early lead in the third set as the Bulldogs went up 5-2. The Deacs came back to tie the game at seven before taking an eventual 12-10 advantage in the set. Gardner-Webb fought back to pull within five at 22-17, but Wake Forest took the win off a service error from the Bulldogs to win 25-19.

For the match, Wake Forest out-blocked the Bulldogs 5.0 - 3.0 while holding Gardner-Webb to a .049 hitting percentage. The Deacs hit .347 for the match.

Emily Holte and Tyra Montour each had six kills to lead the Bulldogs.

Wake Forest takes on William & Mary at 3 p.m. EST tomorrow and will then play host Cal State Fullerton at 10:30 p.m. EST.
