Birdsey Fires 70 On Day 2 of Carpet Capital

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - Wake Forest senior Thomas Birdsey fired a 2-under 70 to lead the Demon Deacons in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic on Saturday.
As a team, the Deacons followed a round of 301 with a round of 295 and is 20-over par for 36 holes. That has them in a tie for 11th in the 14 team field. Georgia Tech continues to lead the field at 7-under par while Georgia closed the gap with a 6-under 282 on Saturday and is just four shots back heading into the final round.
Birdsey opened the tournament with a tough round of 5-over 77 but he rebounded on Saturday with four birdies and just two bogeys in a 2-under 70. He moved up to a tie for 23rd at 3-over par.
Freshman Danny Guise followed his team-leading 73 yesterday with a 3-over 75 and is just behind Birdsey at 4-over for the tournament. Sophomore Davis Womble and freshman Clancy Waugh also finished with 3-over 75s on Saturday. Womble is 7-over for the event while Waugh bounced-back from a 79 in the opening round.
Woody Woodward rounded out the Deacon-five on Saturday with a second round 80.
Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans shot his second-straight 67 and leads the individual race at 10-under par. He has a three-shot lead on Bailey Patrick of North Carolina who is at 7-under par.
The Deacons will start the final round at 9:15 Sunday morning off the 10th tee with Middle Tennessee St. and Kennesaw State. Follow the final round on Golfstat.com.
