ROCKY FACE, Ga. - Three Demon Deacons fired under-par rounds as Wake Forest posted a 4-under 284 in the final round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic to move up to a seventh place finish.

The Deacs shot rounds of 301-295-284 and jumped from 11th place to start the day to seventh at 16-over par. Georgia Tech led wire-to-wire for the victory, finishing 14-under par, six shots better than Georgia.

"Shooting 4-under today at The Farm was a really good round," said Wake Forest head coach Jerry Haas. "The greens were fast and the pins were tucked. I'm very, very pleased. We made 14 birdies and an eagle today from our counters. That's the type of team we're going to be. We've got a young group but it's a talented group. I'm excited about moving forward with this group."

Senior Thomas Birdsey followed his 2-under 70 on Saturday with a 3-under 69 on Sunday to finish at even-par 216 and tied for 12th. The Trophy Club, Texas native made 10 birdies over the final 36 holes.

Freshman Danny Guise had a very good showing in his first tournament as a Demon Deacon. Guise made four birdies in his round of 1-under 71 on Sunday and finished the event in a tie for 23rd at 3-over par.

Fellow freshman Clancy Waugh birdied his first hole and eagled his third on Sunday en route to posting a 2-under 70. Waugh opened with rounds of 79-75 and finished tied for 41st at 8-over par.

Sophomore Davis Womble had a bit of an up-and-down final round as he made four birdies but would finish with a 4-over 76. Womble finished the tournament in a tie for 53rd at 11-over par.

Woody Woodward, the third freshman making his Demon Deacon debut this weekend, had a solid final round 74. He made 14 pars and a birdie on Sunday. Woodward finished 61st at 13-over.

Wake Forest will return to action at the Ingram Invitational beginning on Sept. 20. This will be the Deacs' first appearance in the event which is played at the Golf Club of Tennessee.
