Deacs Look for 4-0 Start
- Wake Forest continues play Saturday with another home doubleheader against Appalachian State (10 a.m.) and Charlotte (4 p.m.)
- The Demon Deacons are coming off of a strong performance in their opening matches Monday, beating College of Charleston 6-1 and UNCG 7-2.
- Wake Forest is looking for its first 4-0 start since the 2009 season.
Top Storylines
- In a display of the team's youth movement this season, Wake Forest's top six in both singles and doubles against College of Charleston and UNCG consisted entirely of freshmen and sophomores.
- The beginning of the season features an experimental scoring format that includes 10-point match tiebreaks being played in lieu of third sets. Four of the singles matches between the Demon Deacons and Cougars went to those tiebreaks, meaning that one would decide the match, and the Deacs won three of them to make the final score 6-1.
- In her first time playing at the top position in the lineup, sophomore Andrea Retolaza Andrade won both of her singles matches on Monday.
- Freshmen Kristina Centenari, Luisa Fernandez and Kimmy Guerin all earned the first dual match singles wins of their careers Monday.
- Wake Forest played four doubles matches and eight singles matches against UNCG and it worked to the Deacons' advantage as they won at the No. 4 doubles spot and the No. 7 and No. 8 singles positions.
- Samantha Asch and Luisa Fernandez have begun to make their case as one of the top doubles teams in the ACC. The two hold a 9-1 record together this season and last week reached the final at the prestigious National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
