MORRISTOWN, N.J. - Wake Forest women's soccer alumna Aubrey Bledsoe inked a contract with Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League on Thursday night, the organization announced.
The three-time All-American spent a season with the Idrettsklubben Grand Bodø of the Norwegian League. Now, she returns to her home country to join the top women's league.
Former Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Jill Loyden retired earlier this week, so Bledsoe will immediately step into a competition for the starting position.
"During our scouting for last year's college draft, we had Aubrey ranked really high at the goalkeeper position," Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra said in a statement released by the organization. "We were looking for someone to challenge for a number one spot and believe Aubrey fills that need...Aubrey has all of the tools. She has the size, and she is very good with her feet. She had a very successful college career and a good year in the Norwegian League. We fully expect to see that success follow her to Sky Blue FC."
At Wake Forest, Bledsoe set all-time records in shutouts (33), goals-against average (0.91), games played and started (94), and minutes played in goal (8,692). That minutes total is second in NCAA Division I history.
Sky Blue FC finished the 2014 season in sixth place with a 9-8-7 overall record.
