Trio of Demon Deacons Advance into Finals of Singles Flights

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's tennis continued its solid singles play on the second day of the 2014 Wake Forest Fall Invitational on Saturday.
Maksim Kan (A1), Nicky Kunz (B1) and Matt Erdman (C1) each advanced to the finals of their respective flights to lead the Demon Deacons.
After winning his quarterfinal via walkover, No. 69-ranked Kan was victorious in a pair of tiebreakers as he earned a straight-sets 7-6 (1), 7-6 (5) win over Georgia State's Jannis Koeke. In the finals, he'll take on No. 21-ranked Hunter Reese of Tennessee.
Kunz came from behind in his quarterfinal matchup to beat Navy's Aries Wong, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0, before defeating Liberty's Sam Matheson in three sets as well, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Kunz plays Zachary Kennedy from Georgia State in the B1 final tomorrow.
In his first weekend of singles competition, Erdman won twice to stay undefeated for Wake Forest. He beat Georgia State's Valentin Horvat 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Then in the semis, Erdman was leading the decisive third set 4-0 when Liberty's Jorge Azuero elected to retire.
Christian Seraphim, Skander Mansouri and Sam Bloom each tallied victories over in-state foes in the quarterfinals before falling to ranked opponents in the semifinals.
Nicholas Osterling, Anthony Delcore, and Brendan Henry all recorded wins in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
Doubles teams of Seraphim and Mansouri (A1), Kan and Kunz (A2), and Bloom and Delcore (A3) are all competing in the finals tomorrow morning.
Doubles competition begins at 9 a.m., and will be followed immediately by the final round of singles play.
