CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Four players advanced to the round of 32 in singles competition as the Wake Forest women's tennis team continued play on day two at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional on Friday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Karen Forman continued her impressive play in singles for the weekend winning her first round match against Caitlin Cridland of Winthrop 6-4, 6-3. She is now 3-0 this weekend thus far and will play the ITA No. 12-ranked Ester Goldfeld of Duke tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
In addition to Forman, Samantha Asch tabbed a first round victory against Charleston's Katherine Scholfield 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to advance. Kimmy Guerin won 6-2, 6-0 against Erica Braschi of Elon and Xue Zhang wrapped up the fourth singles victory with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Olivia Lucas of Elon.
The Deacons dropped both of their round of 16 doubles matches and are now out of doubles play. Kasey Gardiner and Luisa Fernandez fell to Meghan Blevins and Brigit Folland of South Carolina 8-7 (3), and Courtney Meredith and Zhang fell 8-1 to North Carolina's duo of Hayley Carter and Caroline Price.
Day three begins tomorrow morning with quarterfinals action in doubles, followed by the next two rounds of singles play.
