Men's Golf Jumps to Fourth at US Collegiate Championship

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest men's golf team jumped up four places to fourth place on Saturday after a second round 4-under 284 at the U.S. Collegiate Championships at The Golf Club of Georgia.

The Demon Deacons were led by freshman Paul McBride who fired a 3-under 69 on Saturday. McBride is tied for seventh in the field at 4-under 140 after 36 holes. Davis Womble finished at 1-under 71 and is now at even-par 144 through 36 holes, tied for 23rd. Will Zalatoris finished Saturday's round at even par, leaving him 1-over for the tournament and in a tie for 30th. Danny Guise finished at 1-under on Saturday and is now 37th at 2-over 146. Cy Stewart fired an even-par 72 leaving him at 6-over.

Texas overtook Virginia for first place on Saturday as the Longhorns posted a 10-under 278 to leave them at 11-under for the tournament. The Cavaliers were 6-over on Saturday and are now 10-under after 54 holes. Texas A&M shot even par 288 for the day and is in third place at 7-under.

Individually, Virginia's Denny McCarthy was 1-under on Saturday and now sits at 10-under for the tournament to lead the field. His UVA teammate, Derek Bard, also shot 1-under and remains in second at 7-under.

The 54-hole tournament concludes on Sunday on the Lakeside Course at The Golf Club of Georgia. Wake Forest will tee off starting at 9:20 am and will be paired with Auburn and LSU.
