
Wake Forest Claims Titles on Day Two

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Samantha Asch and Kasey Gardiner were named co-champions in the B Singles draw as the Wake Forest women's tennis team completed day two of the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday.
In addition, top doubles duo of Asch and Kimmy Guerin punched their ticket to the A Doubles title match for an ACC battle against Hande and Stenta of NC State.
Courtney Meredith advanced to the C Singles championship match, which she will play tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. against Tijana Uzelac of Winthrop.
Asch and Gardiner earned two singles victories on day two to earn co-champions status in the B Singles flight. Asch got her first win 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 over Andreanna Christopoulou of Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals, and beat Caitlin Cridland of Winthrop 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the semis. Gardiner earned victories against Mackenzie Lasure of App State 6-3, 6-2, and Anna Feaster of Davidson 7-5, 7-6 (3) to earn a shared B Singles championship with Asch.
Meredith made it to the C Singles championship with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Macy Vonderschmidt of Charlotte and a 6-4, 6-3 win against Erica Braschi of Elon.
Asch and Guerin upended Granstrom and Hejlova of Western Kentucky 8-1 to advance to the A Doubles flight championship for an ACC matchup against the Wolfpack.
The Deacs wrap up the Wake Forest Invitational tomorrow with the final day of competition. Every player will play one doubles match in the morning and a singles match to follow.
