FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Wake Forest suffered its first loss of the season in an 83-53 loss to Arkansas on Wednesday at Bud Walton Arena.

Devin Thomas had 19 points to lead Wake Forest (2-1) and added 10 rebounds. Madison Jones and Darius Leonard each had six points. Jones had three assists to lead the Deacons. Arkansas (2-0) was led by Rashad Madden who had 11 points while five other Razorbacks had 10 points each.

Arkansas pulled ahead in the first half and led 44-30 at halftime. Wake Forest went on a 6-0 run early in the second half to pull within 14 but the Razorbacks extended their lead and defeated the Deacons by 30.

Wake Forest and Arkansas battled to a 10-10 draw early in the first half after Darius Leonard tipped in a missed free throw. The Razorbacks then went on an 18-2 run over the next 4:06 to pull ahead 30-12.

The Demon Deacons trailed 38-18 with 5:37 left in the half but closed the first frame out on a 12-6 run which included six points from Thomas. Arkansas took a 44-30 lead into the locker room at halftime. Wake Forest committed 11 turnovers in the first half while Arkansas had 10 steals. The Deacons struggled from the floor, shooting just 32.1% in the half.

With Arkansas leading 53-34 at the 16:55 mark in the second half, Thomas hit a jumper followed by layups from Codi Miller-McIntyre and Madison Jones, forcing Arkansas to call a timeout. The Razorbacks limited the Deacons to just one field goal over the next 11 minutes and closed the game out, winning 83-53.
