Hamby Paces Wake Forest in Win Over Coppin State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior Dearica Hamby recorded 29 points and 15 rebounds as Wake Forest beat Coppin State 65-54 at the LJVM Coliseum. The Demon Deacons improve to 4-0 with the victory.
Freshman Amber Campbell added 11 points and sophomore Jill Brunori chipped in seven assists, six points and six rebounds.
The Demon Deacons are 4-0 to start the season for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Hamby was involved in the first 18 points of the game for Wake Forest. She scored the first 10 before picking up the assist on a Brunori layup. Hamby scored the next two Wake Forest baskets and again assisted on a Brunori bucket to stake the Deacons to an 18-13 lead with 10:58 on the clock.
Mykia Jones drained a three to push the lead to double figures, 28-18. Nicole Floyd also hit a three-pointer with 5:42 left in the second half which gave Wake Forest a 31-20 lead. The Demon Deacons took a 38-25 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Campbell gave Wake Forest its biggest lead of the day with a three-pointer that put the Deacons ahead 52-30 with 13:05 to play in the game. Coppin State cut the lead to 11 in the final minutes but Wake Forest held on for the 65-54 win.
NOTES:
Wake Forest is 4-0 to start the season for the first time since 2010-11.
Senior Dearica Hamby recorded her second double-double of the season with 29 points and 15 rebounds. It is the 27th double-double of her career.
Dearica Hamby moved up four spots on the school's all-time scoring list. She currently ranks 12th with 1,226 career points.
Freshman Amber Campbell has scored in double figures in three of her first four games.
