
Wake Forest Sweeps Clemson 3-0

CLEMSON, S.C. - Kylie Long recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs to lead the way and Jazmen Russell added a match-high 16 kills as the Wake Forest volleyball team swept Clemson 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon to finish up the weekend at Jervey Gym.
With the win, the Demon Deacons improve to 16-14 overall and 6-10 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 18-12 overall and 6-10 in the conference with the loss. Kristen Faust led the way for the Tigers with 11 kills.
Wake Forest got off to a fast start running out to a 7-1 lead to begin the first set, forcing Clemson to call its first timeout. After a 11-8 run by the Tigers cut the Deacs' lead to 15-12, Wake Forest called its first timeout. Two kills from Russell and an attack error created a six-point cushion at 18-12 for the Deacons and Clemson called another timeout. The Demon Deacons held on to a five point lead the rest of the set to win the first 25-20 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Points were traded between the two teams for the first half of the second set. Wake Forest and Clemson kept the set within a point, exchanging the lead multiple times before the Deacons called the first timeout with the Tigers holding their first two-point lead in the set at 14-12.
The Deacons retook the lead 17-16 after a kill from Russell, but the Tigers tied up the set again 17-17 and the close battle continued. After kills from Matalee Reed and Long gave the Deacs a 23-21 lead late in the set, Clemson called a timeout. After the Tigers scored a point, Wake Forest closed it out with two consecutive kills from Russell to take the set 25-22 and a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.
In the last set, Clemson took the early 5-2 advantage, but the Deacons claimed the lead 9-7 after a 7-2 run. The set was close for the early half, and after a two-point lead was cut to one at 15-14, Wake Forest called a timeout to regroup. The Deacs surged out to an 18-14 lead, and Tigers responded after a timeout to tie the set 19-19. Wake Forest went on a 6-1 run and Long put an end to the match with the final kill to give the Deacons a 25-20 set victory and a sweep against the Tigers.

Jazmen Russell's has recorded double-digit kills in 18 of her last 19 matches with 16 against Clemson.< br=""> With her 12 kills tonight, Kylie Long has now recorded double-digit kills in eight matches in her first season as a Demon Deacon.
With a .417 hitting percentage tonight, it marks the fifth time this season that long has hit over .400 in a match.
Wake Forest had a .304 team hitting percentage today. It is the seventh time this season and the second time in ACC play that the Deacs have hit over .300 as a team in a match.
With 25 kills this weekend, Russell is now at 492 kills this season and is 11 away from breaking Trina Maso de Moya's single season kills record of 502.
