CANCUN, Mexico - Dearica Hamby recorded her third double-double of the season to lead Wake Forest past Charlotte, 65-58, on Friday at the Cancun Challenge.

The Demon Deacons stormed out to a 11-0 lead in the first three minutes. Gordon capped the run with a three-pointer from the left corner. Charlotte got hot from the perimeter and used back-to-back threes from Ciara Gregory to take a 16-15 lead midway through the half.

Hamby hit a jumper to keep Wake Forest within one, 17-18, but it was the last field goal for the Deacons for over two minutes as Charlotte opened up a 28-17 lead. Mykia Jones scored the last basket of the half, a layup with just under a minute remaining to cut Charlotte's lead to 35-29 at halftime. The 49ers were 7-of-13 from three-point range in the opening half.

Wake Forest scored the first six points of the second half to tie the game 35-35. It was the first of four ties in the second half. The Deacons took the lead for good with just over five minutes left in the game when Jones found Hamby down low for a layup that put Wake Forest in the lead, 51-49.

Calicott gave Wake Forest its biggest lead of the day, 58-49, when she hit a three-pointer from the left corner. Charlotte answered with a seven-point run to get within two with less than a minute remaining.
