CLEMSON, S.C. - Tied 1-1 at the end of two overtime periods, No. 18 Wake Forest fell to No. 17 Clemson 3-2 in penalty kicks on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. The Tigers move on to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C.

Wake Forest (10-7-1, 5-3-0 ACC) took advantage of a Clemson (10-6-2, 5-2-1 ACC) own goal in the second half but the Tigers tied it up seven minutes later. Ian Harkes and Hayden Partain each scored in the penalty shootout and Alec Ferrell made one save but the Tigers advanced 3-2.

The teams played to a 0-0 tie in the first half as Clemson limited Wake Forest to just two shots. Ferrell had a highlight save in the 25th minute as he saved a shot from Manolo Sanchez on a quick break. Sam Fink headed a shot on a free kick with less than 10 seconds in the half but the Clemson goalkeeper made the save to keep it scoreless going to halftime.

In the second half, Wake Forest went up 1-0 in the 54th minute after an own goal from Clemson. On a free kick from outside the box, Jon Bakero sent in a ball that was punched out by the Tigers goalkeeper which bounced off a Clemson defender into the goal.

Clemson tied the game up in the 61st minute as Diego Campos converted a cross near the right post to knot the score at 1-1. The two teams battled to a tie at the end of regulation, forcing overtime.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the teams entered the penalty shootout. Clemson went up 1-0 after the Tigers goalkeeper Chris Glodack saved the first two attempts from the Demon Deacons. Harkes and Partain converted their shots followed by a save from Ferrell on the fourth attempt from the Tigers. With the final shot, Phanuel Kavita scored to push the Tigers into the semifinals of the ACC Tournament.

Notes
- Wake Forest is 8-7 all-time in penalty shootouts in the ACC Tournament.
- Goalkeeper Alec Ferrell made four saves in the game.
- Shane Powell made his second start of his career.
- Clemson was whistled offside seven times in the first half and 10 times total for the game.
- Clemson's own goal was the second own goal the Deacs have benefited from this season. Boston College put one in its own net in Wake Forest's 4-1 victory over the Eagles.
- Thomas Haws made his season debut in the second half.
