
Wake Forest falls to Michigan 83-69

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Wake Forest fell to Michigan 83-69 on Wednesday at the Crisler Center in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Dearica Hamby led Wake Forest (6-2) with 19 points and nine rebounds. Amber Campbell added 15 points and Kelila Atkinson chipped in 13 points.
The Demon Deacons jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the game on a three-pointer by Campbell. Wake Forest maintained a 9-6 lead with 16:08 on the clock after Hamby layup. Michigan answered with a 6-0 run to take the lead, 12-9, less than two minutes later. Two free throws by Hamby pulled the Deacons within one, 11-12, but once again Michigan went on a run, this time 7-0, for a 19-11 lead.
The Wolverines stretched the lead to 40-20 with just under five minutes remaining in the opening half. Atkinson provided a spark off the bench, hitting a three-pointer to make the Michigan lead 43-27 with 2:44 on the clock. Wake Forest trailed 47-31 at halftime.
Taylor Gordon and Hamby hit back-to-back treys early in the second half to get Wake Forest within 11, 52-41. Michigan stopped the run with two-straight baskets and didn't allow Wake Forest within 13 for the rest of the game. The Wolverines pulled away for the 83-69 win.
NOTES:
Amber Campbell finished with 15 points. She has scored in double figures in six games this season.
Wake Forest was perfect from the charity stripe (8-0f-8).
Kelila Atkinson had played just two minutes this season before the Michigan game. She contributed 13 points, four rebounds and three steals off the bench in the contest.
NEXT UP
Wake Forest returns home to host Arizona at the LJVM Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m.
The Demon Deacons are 1-1 all-time against Arizona.
Last year Wake Forest traveled to Tucson, Ariz. and picked up a 70-58 win over the Wildcats. Chelsea Douglas scored 22 points and Dearica Hamby chipped-in with 18 in the win.
