WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior Dearica Hamby has been added to the Wade Watch List as announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, on behalf of the Wade Trophy Coalition.
The Wade Trophy Coalition presents The Wade Trophy to the nation's most outstanding NCAA Division I women's basketball player each year - one who not only excels athletically but also serves as a positive role model both on and off the court.
Hamby has been a model of consistency all season. She leads the ACC in both scoring (21.4) and rebounding (11.2) and has notched 19 double-doubles in 24 games. Her production hasn't dipped in conference play either, as she is still averaging 21.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest against ACC foes. The Marietta, Ga., native is also in the top-10 in the conference in steals and blocks per game.
Hamby is the first Demon Deacon to be named to the Wade Watch List. Of the 10 midseason additions, six are from ACC schools.
The Wade Watch list will be trimmed to 12 finalists in mid-March. The Wade Trophy Coalition will officially announce The Wade Trophy winner at the fourth annual WBCA Awards Show on Monday, April 7, which is part of the 2014 WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four, in Nashville.
