Evan Stephens Named Capital One Academic All-American

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Evan Stephens was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as announced by the organization on Friday.
Stephens becomes the fourth Wake Forest baseball player to earn Academic All-America honors and the first since Dave Lardieri in 1997. To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least sophomore standing and a GPA of at least 3.30. Voting is conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and each candidate must have earned All-District honors in the same year to be eligible.
A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Stephens boasted a 3.83 GPA while majoring in finance. He earned Academic All-District honors for the last three seasons and was honored with an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship earlier this year.
One of the top leadoff hitters in the country, Stephens started every game this season in center field and hit for an average of .300. He compiled 63 hits, 10 doubles and 15 RBIs while walking 43 times which ranked among the leaders nationally. Stephens also led Wake Forest with an on-base percentage of .440. For his career, Stephens hit for an average of .309 and started 154 games.
Wake Forest finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 30-26 with a 15-15 record in the ACC and was the eighth seed in the 2014 ACC Baseball Championship.
