GREENSBORO, N.C. - Rising senior Karen Forman has been named to the 2014 ACC All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.
Forman, who picked up the honor for the first time in her career as a Demon Deacon, put together a strong season on the courts in 2014, going 15-4 in singles play and 13-9 in doubles with a quartet of different partners. Her 15 singles victories were a career high for the rising senior.
In the fall, Forman powered through the D Singles flight at the Wake Forest Invitational, dropping only a single set in four matches to come away with the first individual championship of her career. She continued to capitalize on that momentum, building a career-long eight-match winning streak that spanned the end of the fall and the beginning of dual play in the spring.
The Del Mar, Calif., native also saw extensive doubles action in the spring, earning eight victories at the No. 3 position in matches against ranked teams. Perhaps the biggest win of the season came in the ACC Championship opener against No. 73 Maryland, when Forman paired with Kimmy Guerin for an 8-2 win. Wake Forest would later go on to win the overall match 4-1 for its first ACC Championship win since 2010.
A Business and Enterprise Management major, Forman became only the sixth Demon Deacon to receive the All-ACC Academic Team honors and the first since Ryann Cutillo in 2012. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.
