WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Incoming men's tennis freshman Noah Rubin is set to make his ATP Tour debut on his soon-to-be campus after accepting a wild card entry into the main draw at the Winston-Salem Open, the tournament announced.
Additionally, recent graduate Adam Lee, current junior Jon Ho and sophomore Maksim Kan will be competing in the qualifying rounds of the event.
Rubin will play Bradley Klahn first round. Klahn was an NCAA singles champion at Stanford. The winner will play John Isner in the second round.
Rubin has won back-to-back high level tournaments. First, the 18-year-old beat his doubles teammate Stefan Kozlov in London to win the Wimbledon boys singles title in July.
He followed up that victory by winning the USTA Boys National Championship in both singles and doubles a week ago, punching his ticket into the main draw of the US Open.
Now, Rubin will compete on his future home courts at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex at BB&T Field, along with a pair of his new teammates.
In his freshman campaign, Kan posted a team-high 46 wins combined between singles and doubles play, also holding a winning record against nationally-ranked opponents in singles action.
Ho finished 2013-14 third on the team with 24 singles victories, posting a 24-15 mark. Through two seasons at Wake Forest, Ho has 52 singles wins.
Lee wrapped up his Wake Forest career in the spring, finishing with 89 singles wins in his four-year career, tied for ninth-most all-time. In 2012-13, Lee set a program season record with 38 singles victories.
The Winston-Salem Open begins with qualifying on Saturday, with main draw play starting on Sunday, Aug. 17 and culminating in the finals on Saturday, Aug. 23. Tickets start at $10 and can be purchased on WinstonSalemOpen.com or by calling (336) 758-6409. The draw, including times, will be announced Friday evening.
