WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 7 Cal used scored two goals in each half as the visiting Golden Bears defeated No. 11 Wake Forest 4-1 at Spry Stadium on Sunday night.

Freshman Hank Gauger scored in the second half for Wake Forest (0-2-0) his first collegiate goal. Gauger had a nice finish off a looping cross from Jacori Hayes. Four different players scored for Cal (1-1-0) who earned its first win of the season.

Wake Forest had several scoring opportunities early in the first half as Michael Gamble nearly put the Deacs ahead in the sixth minute as he launched a shot at the goalkeeper and headed the rebound only to have it hit the cross bar.

Cal tallied the first goal of the game in the 15th minute after Connor Hallisey finished a cross into the box. Ferrell made two nice saves just a couple minutes later but Christian Thierjung made it a 2-0 game in the 27th minute after he scored on a pass from Hallisey.

The Deacons had a couple chances late in the first half including a shot from Gamble that just went wide. Coming out of halftime, Cal scored just two minutes into the half to put the Golden Bears up by three.

Later in the half, Gauger put Wake Forest on the board with a finish at the top of the box after a nice pass from Hayes. Cal added on with a fourth goal in the 69th minute to seal the 4-1 victory.
