Wake Forest Opens Fall Season at Elon Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team will open up the fall season at the Elon Invitational Friday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The tournament begins Friday and will end on Sunday. There will be a total of 11 teams competing in the tournament.
Four Demon Deacons will be competing in singles competition during the tournament, including seniors Karen Forman and Xue Zhang, sophomore Kristina Centenari, and freshman newcomer Sara Swift. In the doubles bracket, Forman and Zhang will be the first duo, while Centenari and Swift will round out the other pairing.
As a junior last season, Forman went 15-4 singles record and went 13-9 in doubles during the spring season. During the fall, she earned the title in the D Singles flight at the Wake Forest Invitational and posted an eight-match winning streak spanning the end of the fall and the beginning of dual play.
Zhang was one of three Demon Deacons to notch 20 or more singles victories during the spring season, finishing 20-17 overall and 12-13 in dual-match play primarily at the No. 6 position. She reached the finals of the A Doubles flight at the Wake Forest Invitational in the fall.
Centenari won two singles matches at the Tribe Invitational and three at the Wake Forest Invitational in the fall as a freshman. She posted a 7-3 singles record overall and a 1-4 mark in doubles play. Centenari played two matches at No. 8 singles under the experimental rules.
For Swift, this will be her first appearance as a Demon Deacon. She was a four-star recruit by the Tennis Recruiting Network, playing the No. 1 for the her high school in her first three seasons, leading the team to three district championships.
Following the Elon Invitational, Wake Forest competes in its second tournament of the fall season from Sept. 19-21 in the William and Mary Invitational.
