
The Deacs Complete Day One of Elon Invite

ELON, N.C. - Freshman newcomer Sara Swift won two matches to advance to the semifinals of the A3 singles draw as the Wake Forest women's tennis team completed first one of competition at the Elon Invitational on Friday.
Swift defeated Hunter Hall of UNC-Asheville, 6-0, 4-6, 10-7 in the first round, followed by a second round 6-3, 6-2, victory over Jamie Grinberg of UNCG to advance to semifinals. In addition to Swift, Karen Forman and Xue Zhang each won their first round matches in the A1 singles draw.
Forman defeated Yasmin Franco of UNCG 6-1, 6-4, before falling in her second round match to Isabel Von Stryk of USC Upstate. Zhang won her first round match against Aissa Muamba of NCCU, 6-1, 6-3, before falling to Lyn Yee Choo of ETSU, 5-7, 6-3, 10-6.
Kristina Centenari fell in her first match 6-0, 6-1 to Jess Brumit of ETSU, but won her second match of the day3-6, 6-2, 10-6 over Elizabeth Ansari of Western Carolina.
In doubles play, both doubles pairs, lost for Wake Forest. Forman and Zhang lost 8-0 against Granstom and Cristopoulou of Western Kentucky, and Swift and Centenari fell 8-4 against Rivera and Groeneveld of Liberty.
The action will pick up at 11 a.m. tomorrow for the beginning of day two at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
