
Wake Forest Completes Day One of Tribe Invite

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team completed day one of competition at the William & Mary Tribe Invitational on Friday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Deacs faced the University of Pennsylvania in singles play, and faced Virginia, VCU, and Dartmouth in doubles.
Overall, Wake Forest finished day one with a 3-3 record in singles play and a 2-5 record in doubles competition. Freshman Courtney Meredith led the way for the Demon Deacons as she went 2-0 for the day earning a victory in both singles and doubles play.
Against Pennsylvania in singles play, Kimmy Guerin defeated Sonya Latycheva, 6-1, 6-1, Samantha Asch won her matchup 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 against Luba Vazhenina, and Meredith beat Alexandra Ion 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles play, Kristina Centenari and Meredith defeated A. Batiri and A. de Lasa of VCU, 8-2. Karen Forman and Sara Swift beat A. Okuda and K. Mathis of Dartmouth, 8-7, 9-7 in the tiebreak.
The Demon Deacons return to action tomorrow facing against the University of Indiana in singles play, and the University of Maryland in doubles play. The team will conclude the tournament on Sunday with matchups in singles play against VCU and Virginia.
