Kan Rebounds with Two Wins to Reach Consolation Finals

NAPA, Calif., LAFAYETTE, La. and CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Maksim Kan earned a pair of victories to reach the consolation finals in his draw to lead Wake Forest men's tennis on a busy Saturday.
After falling in the opening round of the UVa Ranked +1 Invitational on Friday, No. 69 Kan swept his four singles sets on Saturday over George Washington's Danil Zelenkov, 6-2, 7-5, and Middle Tennessee State's No. 60-ranked Ettore Zito, seeded second. In the consolation finals on Sunday, Kan will take on No. 91 Francisco Dias, who teammate Christian Seraphim defeated on Friday.
Seraphim fell to UVa's fourth-seeded Styslinger, ranked 74th nationally. Styslinger battled back to win 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. Seraphim also fell to Chris Simich from Louisville, 6-2, 6-1.
Nicky Kunz dropped his quarterfinal matchup to Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer, the sixth seed who holds a No. 110 national ranking. Stiefelmeyer won, 6-2, 6-4. Virginia's Henrik Wiersholm then defeated Kunz 6-0, 6-3, in the fifth-place bracket.
Skander Mansouri and Jon Ho advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw in Lafayette late Friday, winning over Georgia's second-seeded Nathan Pasha and Nick Wood, 8-7 (4). Arnau Dachs and Guillermo Nunez from TCU won the back-and-forth semi over Mansouri and Ho on Saturday, 7-5, 6-7 (5), (6).
Noah Rubin made his Wake Forest debut at a USTA Pro Circuit event, the Napa Valley Challenger on Saturday. Julian Lenz, an All-American a year ago and currently the top-ranked player in the NCAA for Baylor, defeated Rubin 6-4, 6-2 in the qualifying rounds.
