BLACKSBURG, Va. - In its best performance to date in 2014, Wake Forest women's soccer snapped a three-game skid by knocking off No. 13 Georgetown by a 2-0 score at Thompson Field in the Virginia Tech Tournament on Sunday.

The win was the 250th in Wake Forest program history.

Pilar Torres scored her first career goal in the first half for the Demon Deacons (2-3). Caroline Wootten snuck a through ball in between a trio of defenders, finding Torres who beat the keeper for what proved to be the game-winner in the 40th minute.

With Georgetown (3-2-1) attacking much of the second half, Wake Forest drew a foul on a counter near the corner in the attacking third. Taylor Waters took the free kick and connected with Riley Ridgik in front of the net, whose header found the back of the net in the 86th minute for her third goal in as many games.

"We deserved it today. I thought we played really well, moved the ball well, defended well when we had to, scored off a set piece, and got a great goal from Pilar [Torres]," head coach Tony da Luz said. "Friday we played well enough to win but also poorly enough to lose, because we made some horrible defensive mistakes. I liked the way we responded, the kids really bounced back from a tough loss and put in an unbelievable performance today."

Freshman keeper Lindsay Preston rebounded nicely, saving all seven shots on goal she faced to earn her second clean sheet of the year.

"Our defending hasn't been great for her. Today was just solid all around," da Luz added. "The back four were much better, and Lindsay took care of everything she needed to take care of - the crosses, the corners, she took everything cleanly."

Wake Forest was out-shot for the first time this season (14-8), but the Deacs were more patient than in previous games, connecting on sequences of short passes instead of looking for the long shot.

RIDGIK IN A GROOVE
• Senior captain Riley Ridgik now has seven points in the last three games, scoring in each contest.
• She scored in the closing minutes today, had a goal and an assist against UNC Wilmington, and scored at Kansas.

FIRST TIMER
• After scoring in the first two exhibition contests, freshman Pilar Torres scored her first career regular season goal in just 17 minutes of action.

BY THE NUMBERS
• 4: Only four Demon Deacons took shots, but two of them scored. Riley Ridgik (3), Katie Dry (2), Sarah Medina (2) and Pilar Torres (1) attempted all eight of Wake Forest's shots.
• 7: Lindsay Preston made seven saves in the win over Georgetown. She surpassed her season total from the first four games, in which she made a total of five saves.
• 364: The Demon Deacons last defeated a top-15 team a year from tomorrow, 364 days ago. Wake Forest topped No. 15 Portland on Sept. 8, 2013. • 2005: Wake Forest avoided suffering its first four-game losing streak since 2005, when the Deacs lost four straight ACC games, three to top-10 opponents.
