DAVIDSON, N.C. - Anna Kozniuk scored twice and Kali Vicars added her first-career goal as the No. 11 Wake Forest field hockey team defeated Davidson College 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.

The Deacs (3-1) finished 2-0 this weekend after defeating No. 9 Old Dominion 5-4 in overtime on Friday night. Wake Forest had plenty of opportunities during the match, but it wouldn't be until the second half that they would make break the scoreless tie.

In the first half, the Deacs outshot the Wildcats 13-0, including six on goal, but couldn't capitalize. Kozniuk was the first to test Davidson goalkeeper Emily Leytham at the 24:28 mark, but the Wildcat keeper made the kick save. Kozniuk followed up with another shot seconds later only to be denied again by Leytham.

The Deacs then had three shots in the 27th minute by Holland, Madi Julius, and Christine Conroe, but all of them were saved and the score remained 0-0. Wake Forest would create many more opportunities in the half but it would remain scoreless after 35 minutes.

Kozniuk finally made the breakthrough, scoring her third goal of the season off of a penalty corner at the 42:45 mark off a pass from Holland to give the Deacs a 1-0 lead.

The Demon Deacons would strike back again through Vicars less than two minutes later at the 44:13 mark to give Wake Forest a 2-0 lead. She dribbled past a couple Davidson defenders and rifled a shot from the right side of the circle.

The Deacs would then close out the match late with a penalty stroke goal from Kozniuk at the 69:23 mark to give the Deacs a 3-0 win.

Wake Forest returns home for their home opener on Thursday, Sept. 11, against No. 14 Northwestern at 6:30 p.m.
