Homer Brookshire Receives 2015 Pete Moffitt Courage Award

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Wake Forest football player Homer Brookshire was honored on Saturday with the Pete Moffitt Courage Award.
Established in 2010, the Pete Moffitt Courage Award is given in recognition of Wake Forest alum Pete Moffitt and the tremendous courage he displayed while battling ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease. The award is given annually to a Wake Forest student-athlete, coach, or alumnus who has demonstrated Pete's great courage in his or her own endeavors. Past recipients of the award include Wake Forest Baseball Coach Tom Walter, Demon Deacon basketball legend Rodney Rogers, and former volleyball coach Heather Kahl Holmes.
Homer Brookshire, the 2015 recipient of the award, is a former Wake Forest football player, 1968 alumnus, Deacon Club member and decorated US Marine Corps veteran. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in the summer of 2014 and has undergone treatment through the past year while continuing to support his Demon Deacons, in particular the golf teams.
Brookshire was recognized at the Wake Forest Homecoming football game against Indiana on Saturday in a pre-game tailgate as well as on-field during the game. In attendance were Brookshire's wife, Jane, son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Dana and grandchildren, Addie and Ryan.
