
Demon Deacons Fall at No. 1 Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The sixth-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team fell to No. 1 Syracuse, 6-0, on Saturday at the J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Syracuse remained undefeated on the season and improved to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in ACC play. The Demon Deacons are 10-4 this season and 3-2 against ACC opponents.
Alma Fenne tallied a hat trick to lead Syracuse. She scored the first goal just four minutes in to the game. After the Orange pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 31st minute Fenne notched two more goals in the final two minutes of the first half to send Syracuse in to the break with a 5-0 lead.
Syracuse got a second-half goal from Roos Wears to make the final score 6-0.
Jule Grashoff led the Demon Deacons with two shots, including one on goal. Valerie Dahmen made nine saves in the game.
This is the first time since September 2014 that the Demon Deacons have lost two games in a row. It is also the first time this season that Wake Forest has lost a game by more than one goal.
Wake Forest returns to Winston-Salem for three-straight home games to close the regular season. The Demon Deacons host North Carolina on Friday at 3 p.m. to start the home stand.
