CARY, N.C. – Skander Mansouri capped off an impressive run through the ITA Carolina Regional singles draw Tuesday with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Brett Clark of North Carolina to win the singles title at Cary Tennis Park.
Mansouri, the No. 6-seed in the tournament, topped No. 1 Clark 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the title. The victory finished off a week in which Mansouri beat seven players, including UNC's Jack Murray in the semifinals and South Carolina's Thomas Mayronne in the quarterfinals.
In the doubles draw, No. 8-seed Romain Bogaerts and Maksim Kan dropped a second-set tiebreaker to ultimately fall in the doubles final 6-1, 7-6 (2) against Ian Dempster and Nick Horton. The duo from NC State served as the No. 2-seed in the tournament. Bogaerts and Kan battled through two three-set matches on Monday in the quarterfinals and semifinals to just reach the final, but Dempster and Horton proved too strong on Tuesday.
Up next, Wake Forest is set to host the Wake Forest Invitational at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex on Nov. 6-8. Admission to the tournament is free. Draws for the tournament will be announced shortly before the tournament starts.
