WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's soccer team wrapped up its 2015 season by knocking off Louisville, 2-1, on Senior Day at Spry Stadium on Oct. 31.
Wake Forest (5-12-2, 2-8 ACC) honored its three seniors, Megan Curan, Jenai Davidson and Katie Dry, prior to the game.
The Demon Deacons opened the scoring in the 27th minute. A through ball from Dry found Kendall Fischlein racing down the right side, who then crossed it into the box, and Bayley Feist headed it past the keeper for her second goal of the season.
Then, the Deacs made it 2-0 in the 74th minute. A Louisville (8-8-2, 4-5-1 ACC) defender failed to clear it from the box, and Reci Smith got it to Peyton Perea who finished inside the far post.
The Cardinals got back into the game in the 85th minute. Lexie Niedoba tapped it back to Shelby Cohen, who drilled an upper-90 rocket to cut the margin to 2-1.
Each side had chances to score in a frantic final six minutes.
First, Louisville looked to make it two goals in less than a minute, but Alison Price's 1v1 attempt was stuffed by Lindsay Preston.
In the 88th minute, Sarah Teegarden dribbled into the box and unleashed a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar. Wake Forest maintained possession, and Davidson had a shot from point-blank range, deflected by Louisville keeper Taylor Bucklin.
After the ensuing corner kick, Dry had a 1v1 chance against Bucklin, but the shot was again stopped by an impressive save. Louisville took it from end to end, where Preston made a diving stop on another shot from Price in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.
Preston stopped six of the seven shots on goal in the winning effort, while Bucklin made seven saves in the loss for Louisville.
Wake Forest had slight advantages in shots (15-11) and shots on goal (9-7), while corners were even at three apiece.
The Demon Deacons end a 10-game skid in which they lost eight games by a one-goal margin and two in overtime, and head into the offseason on a winning note.
