PORTLAND, Ore. – The Wake Forest men's golf team posted its second consecutive strong round at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club and continues to lead the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational. The Demon Deacons have posted a score of 26-under par through 36 holes and lead the tournament with one round remaining.

A day after tying a school record with a 15-under par first round on Pumpkin Ridge's Ghost Creek course, the Demon Deacons went 11-under during the second round, held on the club's other course, Witch Hollow. Tuesday's final round will also be on Witch Hollow.

"It was the first time we were on this course and the guys hung tough as they played it blind," said head coach Jerry Haas. "I was proud of how they played today to shoot 11-under. We are headed to the final round with a lead and that is all that you can ask for. We have seen the course now and there will be a lot of birdies out there tomorrow."

Wake Forest heads into the final 18 holes with a two-shot lead over USC, a four-shot lead over Duke and a six-shot lead over Stanford.

Freshman Cameron Young and sophomore Will Zalatoris led the Deacons during round two, each posting a 4-under round of 68. Individually, Young is T-5th at 7-under and Zalatoris is T-10th at 6-under. Zalatoris is tied fellow sophomore Paul McBride, who posted his second consecutive round of 3-under on Monday.

Freshman Lee Detmer also showed consistency, posting his second round of even-par during the second round. Senior Davis Womble, who led the tournament after the first day at 7-under, had a 3-over round of 75 on Monday and remains in the top 20 at 4-under overall.

The final round of the tournament will be held Tuesday at Pumpkin Ridge. The Deacons will be looking for their second title of the fall, having opened the year with the championship at the Rod Myers Invitational last month at Duke.
