WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Eleven former Demon Deacons remain in the NFL, with eight currently on active rosters. We take a look at what each former Deac did around the NFL over the weekend.
FB Tommy Bohanon, New York Jets
Bohanon started his second game of the season in the Jets' 27-14 win over Miami at Wembley Stadium in London, but did not record any rushing statistics. Bohanon was mainly used in blocking schemes and played more than half of the offense's snaps on the day.
DB Josh Bush, Denver Broncos
After seeing action in the first three games of the season, the Broncos released Bush on October 1.
WR Michael Campanaro, Baltimore Ravens
Campanaro scored his first touchdown of the season on a scampering 8-yard handoff that ended with a backflip into the end zone. Unfortunately, the second-year pro later suffered a back injury, and has been placed on season-ending Injured Reserve. "I know I belong on the field when I'm out there. It's definitely motivation going into next year for myself. Right now, my focus is on getting healthy and supporting the guys," Campanaro said.
WR Chris Givens, Baltimore Ravens
After beginning his season with the Rams, Givens was traded on October 3 to the Baltimore Ravens after injuries to fellow Deacon WR Michael Campanaro and Steve Smith Sr. Givens will look to get a fresh start after recording one reception for seven yards and a rushing touchdown so far this season.
LB Justin Jackson, Dallas Cowboys
After signing with the Cowboys in June, Jackson tore his ACL in practice in early August. He will miss the 2015 season.
DB Kevin Johnson, Houston Texans
The 2015 first-round draft pick earned his first start in his professional career in a 48-21 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. Johnson recorded five tackles on the game. "We've said all along that we like Kevin and felt like that as he progresses, he's going to be playing a lot more. That's the case, and I think he represents himself very well out there," said Texans head coach Bill O'Brien.
DB Merrill Noel, Buffalo Bills
After being released by the team on September 4, Noel was signed to the Bills practice squad.
LB Calvin Pace, New York Jets
Pace saw action in the Jets' 27-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium, but did not record any statistics in the game. Pace is in his 13th season and has played in every game for the Jets since 2011. He has started 144 career games in the NFL and made a total of 590 tackles with 57 sacks.
LB Zach Thompson, Baltimore Ravens
After seeing action in all four preseason games for the Ravens and recording a tackle in the final preseason contest against the Atlanta Falcons, Thompson was placed on Injured Reserve.
FB Nikita Whitlock, New York Giants
Whitlock continued to show his versatility, receiving snaps on offense, defense, and special teams. He surprised everyone except Deacon fans with his pass rushing abilities, recording the first sack of his professional career in a 24-10 win over the Buffalo Bills. "He's got leverage, he's got speed, his get-off is great," Giants center Weston Richburg said. "I've never seen his college tape, but I heard in college he was a force to be reckoned with, so you can obviously see him get the sack. I mean, he doesn't play defense and he goes in and gets a sack. I was so happy to see that. Very proud of that guy."
LB Kyle Wilber, Dallas Cowboys
Wilber saw action in a 26-20 loss to the New Orleans Saints and recorded one tackle on the day. He has 10 tackles and a special teams touchdown through four games.
