FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- Wake Forest men's tennis won its two opening round matchups in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to advance in the tournament.
In singles, Skander Mansouri topped No. 19 Guillermo Nunez 6-3, 7-5 to reach the Round of 16, where he will take on No. 10 Dominik Koepfer of Tulane. Koepfer beat Ohio State's Chris Diaz in straight sets Thursday to reach the Round of 16.
On the doubles side, Romain Bogaerts and Maksim Kan advanced in come-from-behind fashion. After dropping the first set to Minnesota's Matic Spec and Felix Corwin, the Demon Deacon duo didn't lose another game on the way to a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (6) victory to reach the Round of 16. In the next round against third-seeded Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek of San Diego, the 17th-ranked duo in the country, Bogaerts and Kan couldn't keep the momentum going and fell 6-2, 7-6 (5).
Action resumes Friday morning in New York with two rounds of singles on the schedule. Doubles consolation action will also start Friday.
