PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii – The third-ranked Wake Forest men's golf team began its final tournament of the fall semester in strong fashion, taking the opening round lead at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The Demon Deacons shot 10-under for the first round and lead the field by three strokes.

Freshman Cameron Young shot a 6-under round of 66 to lead the Demon Deacons and has a two-shot lead on the individual leaderboard.

Sophomore Will Zalatoris and freshman Kyle Sterbinsky are also in the top 10 of individuals, both shooting 70 on Monday to end the first round T-8th at 2-under. Senior Davis Womble rounded out the scoring quartet for the Deacons with an even-par round of 70.

"We finished the day nicely and that is what you do when you are playing well as a team and winning tournaments," said head coach Jerry Haas. "As the wind picked up toward the end of the round, Will birdied his last hole, Cameron birdied one of his last holes and Davis birdied one of his last holes. The wind should pick up even more over the next couple of days and we need to be ready to play. It was an excellent start, but we still have a long way to go."

The tournament continues Tuesday and concludes Wednesday at the Makai Golf Club. The Demon Deacons are looking for their fourth victory of the fall semester, which would set a school record.
