PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii -- The third-ranked Wake Forest men's golf team is in second place after two rounds of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The Demon Deacons are at 24-under heading into the final round and trail Alabama by two shots.
Wake Forest shot 14-under during Tuesday's second round as conditions were good for scoring. Thirteen of 16 teams shot under par during the day, including four teams shooting double digits under par.
Freshman Cameron Young continues to lead the Demon Deacons, posting a second round 68. At 10-under for the tournament, he is in second place, one shot off the individual lead.
Sophomore Will Zalatoris is T-6th place at 7-under for the tournament after shooting a second round score of 67. Freshman Kyle Sterbinsky shot a second-round 68 to finish the day in T-8th place at 6-under. Sophomore Paul McBride posted a 1-under round of 71 on Tuesday to round out the scoring four for the Deacons.
"Today was a very solid day for us," said associate head coach Dan Walters. "The scoring was good and we played solid. There are lots of opportunities for red numbers on the Makai course. We look forward to another good day of competition tomorrow in an absolutely beautiful place."
The tournament concludes Wednesday at the Makai Golf Club. The Demon Deacons will be looking to rally for their fourth victory of the fall semester, which would set a school record.
